Choosing where to plant a tree is an important decision.
Before planting, consider how the tree will grow over time and whether its mature height could interfere with overhead or underground utility lines and rights-of-way. The mature height of the tree should fit within the available space beneath the overhead power lines. Proper tree species selection and placement will help avoid or minimize future conflicts with utility lines.
If tree trimming or removal near overhead electric lines is required, we work closely with homeowners and their contractors to temporarily disconnect service so the work can be completed safely by your qualified electric contractor. Please call us at 1-800-322-3223 at least five business days in advance of the work to request this service.

Before planting a tree or starting any excavation project, remember that electric and gas utility lines may be buried underground where you least expect them. If you’re planning any type of excavation project, call 811 at least 72 hours in advance (excluding weekends and holidays) so underground utilities can be located and marked before work begins.
DigSafe® notifies us and other participating utilities, allowing time to mark underground wires, pipes, and cables to prevent injuries, property damage, and service interruptions.
