Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement

Since our development consent application for the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement was granted in September 2024, we have been carrying out works to prepare for construction to take place along the project route.

National Grid is pleased to announce that the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero has approved its development consent order application for the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement, after an independent panel recommended that the application be approved.

National Grid is preparing for the delivery of a large supergrid transformer to the site of a new grid supply point (GSP) substation between Butler’s Wood and Waldegrave Wood, off the A131 south of Sudbury. The GSP substation is needed so that existing 132 kV overhead line can be removed as part of the construction of the planned Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement.

The Examining Authority has now completed its examination of the application for development consent for National Grid's Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement.

In October 2022, National Grid’s planning application for a new grid supply point (GSP) substation at Butler’s Wood was approved by Braintree District Council.
