National Grid is working with Hyperion Robotics and the University of Sheffield on a UK-first trial to manufacture, install and test 3D-printed substation foundations, which have the potential to reduce construction-driven carbon emissions and reduce costs to consumers of network construction.

National Grid is deploying technology on its electricity transmission network that can expand the capacity of its existing overhead power lines. Partnering with LineVision, a leading provider of non-contact overhead power line monitoring systems, National Grid has installed dynamic line rating (DLR) sensors on circuits between one of the major North-South power system boundaries.

Over the past few years, the National Grid Ventures Interconnector team have been developing proposals to build the next generation of interconnectors, known as Offshore Hybrid Assets (OHAs). OHAs are a crucial part of building out the North Sea grid.
