WALTHAM, MA – Roughly 24 hours after Tropical Storm Isaias hit New England, thrashing the region with heavy rain and winds that toppled entire trees and took down power lines, thousands of National Grid employees and contractors are focused on clean-up and restoration.

National Grid line, tree and service workers in eastern New York continue to focus on public safety as they remove downed wires, trees, tree limbs and other hazards and replace broken poles after damaging wind and rain from Tropical Storm Isaias swept across the region yesterday.

Two new western New York substations will improve system reliability and increase electricity capacity.

ALBANY, N.Y. - In preparation for possible high winds and heavy rain from Tropical Storm Isaias, National Grid has shifted resources from western New York to add to its full complement of regional crews to respond to damage caused by forecasted severe weather Tuesday night into Wednesday across the eastern portion of the state.

National Grid is proposing up to $50 million in COVID-19 relief to support the company’s most economically vulnerable residential customers as well as businesses that are struggling because of the financial impact of the pandemic.
