National Grid’s IFA2 donates to Veterans Outreach Support
As IFA2 marks five years since it became operational, National Grid is proud to donate £5,000 to Veterans Outreach Support.
Building and operating an interconnector takes the dedication of hundreds of people and thousands of hours of work. At IFA2, military veterans have been an important part of that effort, bringing valuable skills and experience to the project team.
National Grid is proud to employ former Armed Forces personnel and is a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, which supports the welfare, employment and education of the armed forces community and their families.
At IFA2, seven of 23 members of staff are veterans — six from the Royal Navy and one from the British Army with a combined 100 years of military experience. This donation reflects our continued commitment to supporting communities connected to our interconnector operations and the vital work of Veterans Outreach Support.
Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) is a QNVMHS accredited and award-winning charity that offers UK Armed Forces and qualifying Merchant Navy veterans, their families and carers welfare, wellbeing and mental health support in Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham, Isle of Wight and across the Solent region.
It offers a drop-in model of support, advice and guidance on welfare needs, a range of peer-supported wellbeing activities and social groups and access to mental health support - including psychology, psychiatry, and therapy services.
Rebecca Sedler, Managing Director, Interconnectors, National Grid said:
It is essential that we support the communities and work of organisations in the areas where we operate our interconnectors. Supporting Veterans Outreach Support with this donation means a lot to our IFA2 team – many of whom are veterans themselves. I’m pleased to play a small part in helping continue the great work they do.
Ian Millen, CEO Veterans Outreach Support said:
On behalf of everyone at VOS, we are extremely grateful to National Grid and the IFA2 team for this generous donation. It is particularly meaningful to receive this support from a team with such a strong connection to the Armed Forces community, including veterans who have brought their skills, experience and dedication to the IFA2 project. We are proud to work with partners who recognise the value of the veteran community and the importance of ensuring people can access the right support when they need it.
