National Grid supports STEM students with CV writing workshop in Haringey

National Grid colleagues teamed up with the Construction Youth Trust to deliver a CV writing workshop, helping students in Haringey build confidence, develop employability skills and prepare for future careers.

The session brought together Electrical Level 2 students, who worked to strengthen and refine their CVs while gaining practical advice on entering the construction, engineering and infrastructure sectors.

Students arrived with draft CVs, giving National Grid staff the chance to offer direct, one-to-one feedback. Colleagues shared practical tips on how to highlight transferable skills, improve personal statements and present qualifications and experience clearly to employers.

The workshop forms part of National Grid’s wider programme of education and employability activity linked to the North London Reinforcement project. As work continues to upgrade the electricity network, the company is working with local schools, colleges and community organisations to help connect people with training and career opportunities.

The event forms part of National Grid’s wider programme of education, skills and employability activities linked to the North London Reinforcement project. Alongside upgrading the electricity network across North London, National Grid is working with local schools, colleges and community organisations to help inspire future careers in STEM subjects and connect local people with opportunities within the construction and energy sectors.

Alison McCormack, Community Liaison Officer at National Grid, said:

Workshops like this give young people practical tools and the confidence to present themselves to employers, while also helping them understand the wide range of opportunities available across the energy and construction sectors. “What stood out in this session was the level of effort the students had already put into their CVs. For many young people, knowing where to start can be the biggest challenge. Small changes in how they present their skills can make a real difference to how they are seen by employers.

National Grid has been working closely with the Construction Youth Trust to deliver meaningful career focused engagement across Haringey. This includes supporting interview skills workshops, employability sessions and careers guidance activities designed to help young people build confidence, develop workplace skills and prepare for the world of work.
