Eryri VIP project team shares learnings with local engineers
This autumn, the Eryri VIP project team has enjoyed sharing knowledge and experience during organised visits to our site in Minffordd.
We recently welcomed officers from Cyngor Gwynedd’s Highways, Engineering and Ymgynghoriaeth Gwynedd Consultancy (YGC) department and the team from the Nuclear Restoration Services’ (NRS) Trawsfynydd Decommissioning Site to meet our team and learn more about the Eryri VIP project and our operations.
Both visits included a presentation in our Project Information Centre followed by a walking tour of the Minffordd site, which allowed for a discussion about how we manage our construction work and the day-to-day activities of our project.
Carwyn Richards, EHSS&Q Manager of the NRS Trawsfynydd Decommissioning Site, said:
“The visit to the Eryri VIP site was a beneficial learning experience that will support our existing and future decommissioning activities, including the upcoming height reduction of the reactor buildings on our site.
“There are a number of similarities between both sites in terms of the challenges associated with high hazard activities and the opportunity to communicate effectively with local residents and stakeholders. The learnings taken from the visit to Eryri VIP will no doubt help us as we prepare for major project work activity on our Trawsfynydd Site.
“We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with National Grid and wish them well with the continued activity on the Eryri VIP project.”
Steffan Jones, Head of the Highways, Engineering and YGC at Cyngor Gwynedd, said:
“We were honoured to have been invited to see this amazing project and be given a tour of the site. This project will enhance the landscape of the coast and Eryri National Park and offers skilled employment to many local people.
“It was reassuring to learn about all the environmental mitigation in place, and the level of engagement with the local community and the Welsh language. We thank Steve Ellison and the team for an excellent presentation.”
The Eryri VIP team will continue to share construction insights uncovered during the work on the project so far with the local engineering, energy and infrastructure sectors.
