Each year, Winscombe closes its main road for one evening to allow residents to safely enjoy late-night shopping and support local businesses. The local company that volunteered its time in past years, to put out diversion routes and man the closures on the night, were unable to help this year. Winscombe and Sandford Parish Council approached the Hinkley Connection Team, who gladly offered its support.
The National Grid team worked with the local council to arrange the necessary permissions to close the road. The team then went about installing advance warning notices of the road closure on the council’s behalf.
On the day of the festive event, the Hinkley Connection project team set up all the road signs and manned the closure points well into the evening, placing one trained traffic management marshal on each.
A special thank you goes to the Hinkley Connection Project Team, who kindly helped with the road closure. We genuinely couldn’t have done it without you.
A representative from Winscombe and Sandford Parish Council said: “What a great night! It was lovely to see so many people enjoying the evening despite the weather warnings. A special thank you goes to the Hinkley Connection Project Team, who kindly helped with the road closure. We genuinely couldn’t have done it without you.”
James Goode, Project Director for National Grid’s Hinkley Connection Project, added: “The project team did an amazing job turning this around at short notice and we were delighted to be able to support this local tradition for a community close to our works. The weather wasn’t kind, but a great time was had by all.”
