People at community event

National Grid welcomes residents to information sessions

Over 4,500 residents were invited to attend

On Monday 3 October and Thursday 6 October, residents and landowners from Tickenham, Nailsea, Portishead and surrounding areas attended public information events to learn more about National Grid’s work to build new T-pylons and plans to remove older lattice pylons in their communities.

The Hinkley Connection team welcomed over 70 people to the events in Tickenham Village Hall and the Folk Hall, Portishead. To ensure as many people as possible had the opportunity to learn more about National Grid's activity in their area, invitations were sent to over 4,500 residents, landowners, and businesses.

The events were welcomed by residents, who told our team that the timing of the events fitted well with their schedules and allowed them to hear first-hand about what to expect during construction.

Those attending viewed graphics of the connection route between Sandford and Portbury and detailed maps highlighting the work that was taking place closest to communities and in Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve. Visual models of the T-pylons were on display as well as images and videos about how T-pylons are is erected and then strung with the wires. Footage of older pylons being 'felled' to make way for the new connection were also popular with those attending. Members of the project team were on hand to answer any questions.

At every step of the Hinkley Connection Project we aim to keep local communities and landowners informed of our activities.

Gillian Burnell, Project Communications Manager for National Grid commented, "At every step of the Hinkley Connection Project we aim to keep local communities and landowners informed of our activities before starting work in each area. It was great to welcome residents and landowners at both project information events and answer their questions."
