Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team receives Community Grant Programme funding to support their vital operations across Eryri

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) are celebrating the news that they have been successful in their application for funding from National Grid Electricity Transmission’s (NGET) Community Grant Programme.

The Community Grant Programme is aimed at community organisations and charities in areas where NGET’s work is impacting on local people through its operations and construction  activities.

Since its inception in December 2015, the programme has awarded over £4.6 million to projects across the country.

Aberglaslyn MRT help to locate missing people or those who have encountered difficulty in the mountains across Eryri and North Wales. They provide lifesaving care to people in need and also carry out technical rescues, swift water and flood rescues.

The group has been awarded £18,444 from the Community Grant Programme which will be used to equip 8 new volunteers and upgrade their casualty evacuation systems.

Speaking about the funding, Owen Senior, fundraising officer at Aberglaslyn MRT said: “The funding that we’ve received from the National Grid Community Grant programme is absolutely game-changing for our volunteers and the wider community we serve.

“This grant funding will help us with vital, life-saving equipment upgrades and help us to access even more training. This will directly enhance our ability to respond swiftly and safely to those in need across our challenging mountain terrain. It’s an investment in the safety of everyone who lives in or explores our areas.”

Steve Ellison, Senior Project Manager for the Eryri VIP project said: “The work that Aberglaslyn MRT carries out is absolutely vital to the safety and wellbeing of people in the community where we are working on the Eryri VIP project.

“We’re delighted that they have been successful in their application and can train more people to carry out their lifesaving work. The project team and I are extremely grateful for all the work that they do in keeping the community and those visiting the area safe.”
