Flying high: offsetting our carbon emissions from air travel

This scheme delivers on the commitment we made in our Responsible Business Charter, which states that we will reduce our absolute annual air travel emissions by at least 50% by 2025/26, from a 2019/20 baseline, and offset any remaining emissions responsibly.    

For the past few years, our air travel provider, Agiito, has assigned an offsetting cost to each flight that our employees book. This is charged to our relevant business cost code and the proceeds are used to fund tree planting. This aspect of the scheme is managed by Agiito's partner Trees4Travel.  

The idea is to transfer responsibility and offsetting costs out to each business unit, a move that brings to life some of the positive culture shifts we’re working hard to make. Giving our teams accountability and ownership on which travel really is essential means we’re all more aware and conscious of the impact of each and every flight we take – driving a change in our behaviours and ensuring that we’re all contributing to our role in the clean energy transition.
