The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the world’s most significant summit on climate change. It's an annual summit of all the countries that are signed up to the United Nation’s treaty to combat climate change - the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) - which came into being in 1994.

Negotiations between governments sit at the heart of each COP, but over the past few years the presence of business and civil society has dramatically increased given action needs to be taken by all of society to implement the Paris Agreement.

We have participated in COP26, COP27, COP28 and COP29, and will continue to contribute to these global efforts to accelerate a secure, reliable and cleaner energy transition.

COP30 takes place in November 2025 in Belem, Brazil.

Why are we attending COP30?

Our vision is reliable energy and resilient networks that are ready for the future, and cleaner energy will be central to the new energy era. COP conferences are the primary global forum for driving this transition, and business engagement is critical to complement government efforts to reduce emissions. Our presence at COP30 reflects our commitment to international cooperation and accelerating progress.

What is our role in global climate action?

We actively participate in major climate events such as London Climate Action Week, New York Climate Week and the annual climate COPs, as part of our broader international engagement strategy. Through these platforms we share expertise, build collaborations, and contribute to global efforts to facilitate a cleaner energy future.

How are we supporting the UK Government at COP30?

We’re really proud to support the UK Government’s engagement with the COP process – which we’ve been doing since COP26 in Glasgow. We work closely with the UK Government to showcase UK leadership and progress towards the transition in the energy sector.

At COP30 in Belem, we will have a senior-level delegation supporting the UK Government and engaging in discussions across sectors and borders that advance the energy transition and strengthen international collaboration.

What are our objectives at COP30?

This COP is intended to be a turning-point – when the global climate process shifts from diplomacy to delivery. Businesses have been implementing progress on the ground for years; our aim at COP30 is to share the actions we’re taking to deliver the energy transition, to share best practice with peers and organisations in other countries and support the shift to implementation globally.

Key learnings from others will serve to inform our own strategy, bringing international insights back to the business as well as continuing to engage our colleagues on sustainability issues.

What outcomes do we expect from COP30?

While we are not part of the UNFCCC negotiations, we hope to see the strength of the multilateral process and see progress on issues such as the Global Stocktake, finance, adaptation and nature. We aim to engage widely with existing and new stakeholders, to participate in conversations around grids, innovation, reliability, resilience, supply chains corporate sustainability and nature, sharing insights and learning from others.
