Progress update on the Tunnel Boring Machine: 16 September 2025

Following its launch in May this year, Buddug, the Eryri VIP tunnel boring machine (TBM) is making good progress digging the tunnel which will contain the underground electricity cables which will replace the 3km of overhead line and 10 pylons that cross the Dwyryd Estuary within the Eryri National Park.

As of Tuesday 16 September, the TBM has tunnelled 851.73 out of the total 3329 metres and installed 682 rings out of 2274.

The map below shows where the TBM has reached so far which is just to the west of the Minffordd roundabout.
