Green fingered volunteers lend a hand at Bishops Cannings Primary School
This summer , members of the North Wessex Downs VIP project team were joined by staff from Wiltshire Concrete, Balfour Beatty and National Grid’s internal departments for a day of volunteering at Bishops Cannings Primary School.
Teachers at the primary school wanted to restore their outdoor conservation area, which over time had become overgrown and unsafe, and bring it back to life to be used as an outdoor classroom.
The green fingered volunteers teams spent a day at the school, helping to clear some of the layers of overgrown vegetation that were restricting access to the outdoor space.
Their activities included cutting down overgrown ivy, clearing low-level vegetation and weeds as well as hedge trimming using non-mechanical tools. In total they successfully removed an impressive six one-tonne bags of vegetation waste.
Speaking about taking part in the day, National Grid VIP project manager Amardeep Malhi said:
Our work on the VIP project in Devizes is all about conserving and enhancing the natural beauty, wildlife and environmental heritage of one of our most protected landscapes.
We therefore understand the importance of having good access to nature and we were very pleased to have been able to lend a hand to Bishops Cannings Primary school to help improve their outdoor space for pupils to enjoy.
