North Wessex Downs VIP walkers raise over £5,000 for Wiltshire & Bath Air Ambulance
Members of the North Wessex Downs VIP project team recently donned their walking boots and successfully completed the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £5,000 for the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity.
The intrepid team including colleagues from National Grid and Balfour Beatty, began their 4-hour 20-minute ascent of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in the dark at 3:30am, arriving at its peak in time to enjoy sunrise.
They then summited to Cadair Idris, before heading to the Brecon Beacons to climb Pen y Fan, completing the challenge in just under 16 hours, totalling an approximate walking distance of 17 miles and a combined ascent of 2,334 metres.
Thanks to the generosity of over 80 donors, the VIP team has raised over £5,000 to support the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance which provides critical medical care by land and air across the area.
The air ambulance serves the communities closest to the North Wessex Downs VIP project and the team were inspired to support it after seeing their helicopter landing locally. This year, the life-saving charity is celebrating 35 years of dedicated service.

Amardeep Malhi, project manager for the North Wessex Downs VIP project, said:

Through this challenge, we raised over £5,000 for the local air ambulance, making a significant contribution to this vital service. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, supported and donated – your efforts and teamwork have made a real difference.
Matt Taylor, Senior Project Manager (Power Transmission and Distribution) for Balfour Beatty said:
We were inspired to support the local air ambulance after recently witnessing their incredible work first hand, when their helicopter landed nearby. This was a fantastic team effort, showing real comradeship, grit and determination throughout the day coupled with great weather.
