We have carried out essential maintenance work on the 400kV overhead electricity transmission line between Lovedean in Hampshire and Bolney in West Sussex.
Project overview
The works on the 64.5km overhead line between Lovedean to Bolney are now complete and the team are in the process of removing equipment from the final sites along the route.
The route, made up of 190 pylons with two circuits, begins at our substation in Lovedean and runs close to the South Downs National Park, to our substation at Bolney. We have been refurbishing sections of the route since May, replacing fittings on towers and steelwork where necessary.
Electricity is now back running evenly across both circuits, rathe than through one side of the line as it had been while the refurbishment work took place.
This has been essential maintenance work, needed to maintain and improve our network and ensure we can continue to operate a safe and reliable electricity system in the future.
What you can expect to see
Over the coming months the team will undertake any final monitoring and maintenance work required to the towers and surrounding sites along the route and will also move out of the site compound in Cocking.
Temporary stop and go measures
While the team remove equipment from sites along the route, you may see some temporary ‘stop and go’ traffic management measurements put in place on local roads located next to the overhead line. These measures are required to enable our team to access working sites and drop off equipment safely. They are not expected to last any longer than 15 minutes at a time and will cause minimal disruption.
