Temporary two-week lane closure on A361

Wiltshire Council will be carrying out essential carriageway repairs on the A361, which will require a temporary two-week closure of the southbound carriageway near the North Wessex Downs VIP project site.

From 7.00pm on Sunday 21st September until 6.00am on Monday 6th October 2025, the southbound carriageway of the A361 between Hopton Road roundabout and Bishops Cannings will be closed to all traffic.

The A361 will be open to northbound traffic heading out of Devizes only.

For vehicles travelling southbound into Devizes, a clearly signposted diversion route will be in place throughout the duration of the work.

The repairs will involve resurfacing the carriageway where underground cables were previously installed beneath the road.

During the cable installation, subcontractors working on behalf of National Grid and Balfour Beatty encountered an issue with the geology below the carriageway, which caused some damage to the road surface.

Upon completion of the works, all of the current temporary speed limit and lane restrictions will be removed and the carriageway fully reopened.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the local community during these essential works and apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.
