Our response to coronavirus

Find out how we're working to keep the electricity and gas flowing reliably throughout the outbreak.

Infrastructure projects

Infrastructure projects are large-scale development projects we’re working on. Here you can find out about these projects, including background information, how to contact us, and how to share your views with us when a public consultation is underway.

Infrastructure projects – meeting the UK’s energy challenge

The UK is facing a critical energy challenge – how best to maintain a reliable supply of electricity, particularly given that a quarter of our old power stations are due to close over the next decade. We’ll need new locations for generation and new technologies that are more focused on nuclear and renewable energy. All this will involve updating our infrastructure, so we can continue to keep the lights on in the UK.

Working with communities and other stakeholders

As we upgrade the electricity transmission network and begin projects to connect new electricity generation sources, we work with a wide range of stakeholders and experts. This provides us with valuable feedback and insight as we strive to minimise the impact on people and communities.

We consider environmental factors such as:

  • areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • ecologically important sites
  • locations of listed buildings.
