Our response to coronavirus

Find out how we're working to keep the electricity and gas flowing reliably throughout the outbreak.

New Essential Infrastructure

Landulph to Exeter

South West

The power lines from Landulph to Exeter were built in the 1960s. Our job is to maintain the overhead power lines so the electricity network is kept in good working order. This ensures that everyone has the power they need on demand and that safety standards are upheld.

End of project update

We’ve completed our £50 million project to refurbish the overhead power lines between Landulph and Exeter. Our work was general refurbishment of more than 300 pylons along the route. We also replaced over 100km of wires as they approached the end of their working life.

This substantial investment will make sure we continue to provide a reliable supply of electricity for homes and businesses for years to come.

We worked closely with landowners to ensure the footpaths, fields and access points are restored to the same condition as they were before work started. Some of this restoration work will continue into early January.

We’re a responsible business and have been active in the local community while we’ve been working in the area. We kept local councils and communities informed of our programme and progress as the project moved locations. We visited Broadclyst Community Primary School and Stoke Cannon C of E Primary School to share some of our knowledge and deliver education sessions on electricity. Our Community Grant programme provides funding for local projects. We presented a £20,000 grant to Quay Community Watersports Hub Club in Bere Alston so they can build a new home for their dinghies and gigs. We’ve also provided £12,000 to Lee Moor Hall north of Plymouth, and £17,679 to Chudleigh Knighton Village Hall. Since we started providing grants in December 2015 we’ve given away a total of £671,034.

We’d like to thank you for your patience during this work. If you have any questions, please contact our Community Relations team on 0800 073 1047. They’re available daily from 7am to 7pm.
