Our environmental future

Our electricity network is on a journey to a cleaner, greener future. Here you can find the environmental targets we have set for our network and how we are reducing the environmental impacts of our direct and indirect operations.

Delivering our environmental future

One of today's key challenges is tackling climate change and progressing the net zero energy transition for the long-term.

We recognise the vital role we play in combating the climate crisis and helping the UK’s energy sector reach net zero by 2050.

To reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions resulting from our activities, we’re putting SF6 as a central focus, we are cutting carbon in our construction projects, operations and offices. We’re also embedding sustainability as a key consideration in our decision making.

We are minimising waste and using circular economy principles to make the most of our natural resources. We are also enhancing the natural environment by improving local biodiversity and contributing to local community projects.

We know that helping combat climate change will save money in the long-term and also strengthen our business for the future. For us, it is also about being a responsible business and leaving a positive legacy.

Delivering our environmental future strategy 2020

Electricity Transmission's 'Delivering our environmental future' strategy sets out our priorities for acting sustainably and marks our contribution to advance the low-carbon transition.
