Western HVDC Link
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and Scottish Power (SP) Transmission have come together in a joint venture to build the Western HVDC Link, a £1 billion project which will help to bring renewable energy from Scotland to homes and businesses in Wales and England.
As of 22 November 2019, we have completed the final commissioning activities, and by reaching this milestone, both NGET and SP Transmission have now formally taken full ownership of the Link.
Current status - 17 January 2020
The HVDC link, which connects Scotland to North Wales, came offline on Friday 10 January 2020. It’s currently unavailable for service while the cause is investigated.
Further updates will be provided here once available.
