Get to know some of the women who are working to shape the future of the energy system, from inspiring the next revolution in clean energy to breaking down stereotypes in engineering.
The women changing the face of energy
There's never been a more exciting time to work in the energy industry. The world is changing, we are all working to address climate change and changing the way we generate and use energy is a huge part of realising this ambition. But making such a huge transformation requires ideas, innovation and inquiring minds and the best way to find these vital ingredients is through diversity.
Diversity means much more than just achieving a gender balance, but energy has traditionally been a male dominated sector, but that’s changing fast. The energy industry needs to recruit for 400,000 jobs over the next 30 years, and that means opening the door to a much wider range of people. Our Building the Net Zero Energy Workforce report concluded that in the energy sector “women and minority groups still underrepresented.”
Part of the reason for this is that there are too few female role models in the energy sector, and there is a lack of understanding of the range of jobs you can do to be part of a cleaner energy future. Here we tell the stories of the Women with Energy at National Grid who are doing exciting work, filling senior roles and smashing stereotypes.
