To meet the government’s target of 50GW of offshore wind by 2030, our industry must deliver more than five times the amount of transmission infrastructure in the next seven years, than has been built in the past 30 years.
This means that the way we transmit electricity from where it’s generated to where it’s needed has to change. We’re already consulting local communities and representatives on projects, but we also need to look beyond the immediate needs to 2030.
As we consider the requirements of the grid well into the future, it’s important we work in partnership with stakeholders from a range of sectors and organisations to ensure that we understand infrastructure ambitions and reflect these in our future plans.
With the right policy and regulatory frameworks in place, the energy transition will drive economic growth, establish a more energy independent UK, and create a job and a skills revolution.
We’re working to build a fairer and more affordable energy system, with Whole System at the heart of this approach. Find out how a new Whole System will help to achieve the UK’s ambition of a net zero economy by 2050, and the key role we have to play.
Read about our whole system approach and future network blueprintsWe believe in a UK future that is clean, green and thriving, where nobody gets left behind, and where digitalisation facilitates the advancement of green technologies. Through digitalisation, we can create value for consumers, improve customer experience, enable greater whole system coordination and transparency, and accelerate the development and deployment of innovative technologies.
