Diweddariad – Mis Ionawr 2026
Cyn bo hir, byddwn yn cynnal arolygon amgylcheddol cynnar yn yr ardal o amgylch yr is-orsaf er mwyn asesu cyflwr y tir yn yr ardal. Bydd hyn yn golygu drilio tyllau turio a chloddio tyllau treialu er mwyn asesu cyflwr y tir. Gelwir y mathau hyn o arolygon yn waith Ymchwiliadau Tir (GI), ac fe'u defnyddir i bennu pa briddoedd a chreigiau sy'n bresennol yn yr ardal. Maent hefyd yn cael eu defnyddio i fonitro faint o ddŵr, nwy ac anwedd a allai fod yn bresennol yn y ddaear, a’r mathau ohonynt. Nid yw'r arolygon yn golygu bod y gwaith adeiladu wedi dechrau. Mae'r gwaith adeiladu ei hun yn amodol ar ganlyniad llwyddiannus ein cais cynllunio. Dros y misoedd nesaf, mae’n bosibl y gwelwch bobl yn gweithio yn y caeau o amgylch yr is-orsaf bresennol, a rhai o'n cerbydau ar hyd y ffyrdd. Er mwyn i ni allu gwneud y gwaith hanfodol hwn yn ddiogel ac yn effeithiol, bydd gennym uned les ac ardal storio i'r gogledd ddwyrain o'r is-orsaf bresennol. Disgwylir i'r gwaith arolygu ddechrau yn gynnar ym mis Chwefror a dylai fod wedi'i gwblhau erbyn diwedd gwanwyn 2026, yn amodol ar ffactorau penodol, fel y tywydd. Ynghyd â’n contractwr, byddwn yn ceisio gwneud y gwaith gyda chyn lleied o darfu ac anhwylustod â phosibl.
Beth yw is-orsaf a beth mae'n ei wneud?
Mae is-orsafoedd trydanol, fel is-orsaf Bodelwyddan, yn chwarae rhan allweddol yn y gwaith o drawsyrru trydan drwy ein system genedlaethol.
Un o'r prif bethau mae is-orsaf yn ei wneud yw newid foltedd trydan. Defnyddir offer o'r enw trawsnewidyddion, sydd ar safle'r is-orsaf, i gynyddu neu ostwng y foltedd.
Gwneir hyn fel y gall National Grid drawsyrru’r trydan ledled y wlad ac yna y gall y Gweithredwr Rhwydwaith Ardal, sef SP Energy Networks yn yr achos hwn, ei gyflenwi ar foltedd is i gartrefi a busnesau lleol.
Yn ogystal, yn Is-orsaf Bodelwyddan yng Nghefn Meiriadog, caiff trydan a gynhyrchir mewn gwahanol ffynonellau ei gysylltu â'r rhwydwaith trawsyrru cenedlaethol.
Cynigion yn is-orsaf Bodelwyddan
Rydym yn cynnig estyniad i is-orsaf Bodelwyddan er mwyn i ni gael ffordd ddiogel o gysylltu’r rhwydwaith trydan â ffynonellau ynni adnewyddadwy glân a newydd yng ngogledd Cymru.
Yn ystod hydref 2023, fe wnaethom gyhoeddi ac ymgynghori ar gynlluniau i wneud hyn, a gofyn i fusnesau, sefydliadau a’r bobl leol am eu hadborth ar ein cynigion.
Mae ein cynlluniau yn cynnwys ymestyn yr is-orsaf tua 8,800 metr sgwâr i’r gorllewin. Mae’r estyniad hwn yn cynnwys ardaloedd ar gyfer nenbontydd newydd, ffordd fynediad a phennau selio ceblau’r datblygwr. Fe wnaethom hefyd gynnal Ymgynghoriad Statudol Cyn Gwneud Cais, rhwng 08 Gorffennaf a 05 Awst 2025. Roedd hyn yn cynnwys rhagor o fanylion am ein cais, gan gynnwys diagramau technegol ac adroddiadau y gellir eu gweld yn y llyfrgell ddogfennau isod.
Gwaith arall sydd angen i ni ei wneud
Gwaith ar wahân ond cysylltiedig yw bod angen i ni hefyd newid sut mae’r llinell uwchben bresennol, rhwng Pentir yng Ngwynedd a Chei Connah yn Sir y Fflint, yn mynd i mewn ac allan o’r is-orsaf.
Mae'r elfen yma o’r gwaith ar y llinell uwchben bresennol yn dilyn proses gydsynio wahanol, sy’n mynnu ein bod yn gofyn am gymeradwyaeth gan yr Ysgrifennydd Gwladol dros Ddiogelwch Ynni a Sero Net o dan Adran 37 o Ddeddf Trydan 1989.
Ym mis Awst 2025, cynhaliwyd ymgynghoriad ar y newidiadau hyn, ac rydym nawr wrthi'n cwblhau cais i'r Ysgrifennydd Gwladol.

Bodelwyddan substation
Bodelwyddan substation is located in Cefn Meiriadog, adjacent to St Asaph Business Park, along the Pentir to Connah’s Quay overhead line route.
Latest update – January 2026
We’ll shortly be carrying out early environmental survey work in the area around the substation to assess the ground conditions in the area. This will involve the drilling of boreholes and the excavation of trial pits to assess ground conditions. These types of surveys are called Ground Investigation (GI) works and are used to determine which soils and rocks are present in the area. They are also used to monitor the types and quantities of water, gas and vapour which may be present in the ground. The surveys do not signal that construction has begun. Construction work itself is subject to the successful outcome of our planning application.
Over the next few months, you may see people working in the fields surrounding the existing substation, and some of our vehicles on local roads. To allow us to carry out these essential works safely and effectively, we will have a welfare unit and storage area located to the north east of the existing substation. Survey work is scheduled to begin in early February and is scheduled to be complete by the end of Spring 2026, subject to factors such as the weather. Together with our contractor, we will aim to carry out the work with as little disruption and inconvenience as possible.
What is a substation and what does it do?
Electrical substations, such as Bodelwyddan substation, play a key part in transmitting electricity through our national system.
One of the main typical roles of substations is to convert electricity into different voltages. The voltage is stepped up or down through equipment called transformers, which sit within the substation site.
This is so the electricity can be transmitted throughout the country by National Grid and then delivered at a lower voltage to local homes and businesses by the District Network Operator, in this case SP Energy Networks.
Bodelwyddan substation at Cefn Meiriadog is also a connection point for sources of energy generation into the national transmission network.
Proposals at Bodelwyddan substation
We’re proposing an extension to our Bodelwyddan substation so we can safely connect new sources of clean renewable energy in North Wales to the electricity network.
In Autumn 2023 we published and consulted on plans to do this, and asked local people, businesses and other organisations for their feedback on our proposals.
Our plans include extending the substation to the west by approximately 8,800 square metres. This extension includes areas for new gantries, an access road and developer cable sealing ends. You can read more about the plans we presented in 2024 in our Autumn 2023 Consultation Summary Document.
We also held a Statutory Pre-Application Consultation between 08 July and 05 August 2025. This included further detail of our application including technical diagrams and reports which can be viewed in the document library below.
Other work we need to do
As a separate but related part of our work, we need to change how the existing overhead line that currently runs between Pentir in Gwynedd and Connah’s Quay in Flintshire enters and leaves the expanded substation.
This element of the work on the existing overhead line follows a different consent process, which requires us to seek approval from the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989.
In August 2025 a consultation was held on these changes, and we are now in the process of finalising an application to the Secretary of State.
What happens next
We have submitted a planning application to Denbighshire County Council for the Bodelwyddan substation extension.
