Project description

National Grid is extending their Bicker Fen 400kv substation as part of the works to facilitate the connection of the Viking Link Interconnector to the electricity transmission system.

National Grid owns and operates the high voltage electricity system in England and Wales. It’s our responsibility to allow new sources of energy to connect to our system so we can all benefit from the electricity they generate.

Preparation work has commenced on site with our experienced contractor Linxon with construction work expecting to begin September 2021 and complete by October 2022.

This work will have no impact on local electricity supplies in the area.

How will these works affect me?

We aim to complete the works with minimal disruption to local communities. In line with the planning consent for Viking Link, we will be taking access to the site from the A52 to the junction of Vicarage Drove and then via the dedicated haul road for the Viking Link project. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that no construction traffic will be passing through Ings Road/Ings Drove or Cowbridge Road.

If you have any questions or enquiries about this project, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0800 279 3408 or email us at [email protected]

Please also note that the work to build the Viking Link converter station and the connecting underground cables between that and Bicker Fen substation, is being carried out by Viking Link.
