Richard Lobban

Richard Lobban is the Legal Business Partner for both Electricity Transmission and Gas Transmission.  He is an experienced solicitor with 19 years’ experience advising across multiple sectors, including Energy, Aerospace and Defence, and Healthcare.      

As Legal Business Partner for Electricity Transmission, Richard’s role involves leading the provision of legal advice (with support from the wider UK legal team) to Electricity Transmission.  

Before taking up his current role in April 2019, Richard was the Legal Business Partner for both the Gas System Operator and Gas Transmission overseeing the provision of legal advice to them. This involved advising on a wide range of matters, including regulatory, contractual, construction and IP.

Before joining National Grid in 2015, Richard was a Solicitor in private practice specialising in Mergers and Acquisitions and large scale commercial contracts.  Earlier in his career, Richard spent time on client secondment as in-house Legal Counsel with British Midland, BAE Systems and Cairn Energy.

Richard is a qualified Solicitor in England and Wales and a non-practising Scots law qualified Solicitor.
