Matt Durham is the Head of UK Procurement, a role covering all National Grid’s UK business entities, including ET. Matt is responsible for delivering value through the supply chain and meeting the needs of the ET business.
Matt has held a variety of roles in NG gas and electricity business units, ranging from leading large and complex change programmes to customer-facing operational projects.
Before taking up his current role, he was Group Head of Business Management System (BMS), responsible for defining the scope and concept of the BMS, developing the relevant value and risk standards, and overseeing the system’s consistent global implementation.
As Global Programme Manager, Matt played a key role in the ‘Shaping our Future’ programme, designing a new business architecture, strategy and operating model for NG. He worked with workstream leads and stakeholders to inject challenge, governance, coordination and pace into the programme.
Before that, he was Senior Project Manager on the North Wales Connection Programme, a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). It was a “challenging project due to its engineering and consenting complexity but also because of its external focus”. His role required him to spend much of his time representing NG at external events, dealing with the public, landowners and media.
Earlier in his career with NG, Matt held several managerial roles in Gas Distribution, highlights of which include projects to improve the operational efficiency and working as a Network Manager in operations.
Matt is a BSc graduate of Coventry University. He is a qualified Prince2 practitioner and 6Sigma Orange Belt, and trained in Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS).
