Group Chief Engineer


Career: David provides a focus on engineering at a senior level, working across all Group operations in both the UK and US. He provides engineering input into the Board and plays a critical role in overcoming the engineering challenges required to transition to net zero. In addition, he helps celebrate the current engineering talent, while strengthening the Company's efforts to attract new engineers to National Grid.

Prior to this role, David led the Company's UK Electricity Transmission business for many years. He has occupied senior leadership positions in both the US and UK in the gas and electricity network businesses, as well as in both the Gas and Electricity System Operators in the UK. David is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering & Technology and a Member of Institute of Gas Engineers & Managers.

Skills and competencies: David has more than 25 years’ experience in the energy industry, managing key relationships with government officials, regulators and customers. He has led businesses providing critical national infrastructure to states and countries, and managed safety critical operations and plants. He has provided innovation leadership to deliver new solutions for the energy industry and has deep knowledge and capabilities in asset management.
