National Grid has awarded the latest funding from its Community Grants Programme (CGP) to Necessary Furniture, an organisation in Canterbury, Kent that refurbishes and recycles donated furniture for families on a low income. The organisation is dependent on a fleet of vans for the collection and delivery of goods. The grant will help the organisation replace an old van, which was coming to the end of its useful life.

Increasing offshore wind generation is essential for a green, affordable, and secure energy future. The Bramford to Twinstead reinforcement will connect more homes and businesses to renewable and low carbon power. National Grid will consult with communities on the next stage of this important connection project which is needed to help UK achieve its Net Zero target for 2050.

National Grid is to consult on a proposed energy project in Yorkshire. The planned energy link to Yorkshire from Scotland will bring more renewable power to the network and the link will play an important part in helping the country meet its net zero ambitions.
Virtual consultation sessions will run from Monday 29 March to Friday 23 April.

National Grid plc today announces that it has agreed to acquire PPL WPD Investments Limited (together with its subsidiary undertakings), the holding company of Western Power Distribution, the UK's largest electricity distribution business, from PPL WPD Limited, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation for an equity value of £7.8 billion and National Grid has agreed to sell The Narragansett Electric Company to PPL Energy Holdings, LLC, also a subsidiary of PPL, for an equity value of US$3.8 billion (£2.7 billion).

National Grid is exploring the development of a UK hydrogen ‘backbone’, which aims to join together industrial clusters around the country, potentially creating a 2000km hydrogen network for the UK by around 2030.

Since 2018, National Grid’s Hinkley Connection Project, connecting low carbon energy from Hinkley Point C to homes and businesses across the UK, has awarded science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) grants totalling £580,000 to schools in Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucester – the areas closest to the project.
