Connecting Weston-super-Mare to low carbon energy

The work to modify the existing 132,000 volt line from Weston-super-Mare is complete.

The nine new lattice pylons and short section of underground cable are connected to the new substation and ready to be energised.

When the substation is fully energised in spring, the new pylons and cables connected to the substation will take over the supply of electricity to Western-super-Mare.

These modifications allow National Grid to remove older pylons from around the substation, and to take down the long line of 249 lattice pylons between Bridgwater and Avonmouth by 2023.
