We all recognise the need to plant more trees and recreate a more biodiverse environment to encourage insects, birds and mammals. In the UK, we unfortunately have the unenviable honour of being one of the least forested nations in the whole of Europe or in any of the G7 nations. Large swathes of hillside forests have been destroyed over many centuries and are unable to re-establish themselves as a result of excessive sheep farming. Head of UK Business Services, Martin Purkess and his wife have decided to take personal action to help redress the natural imbalance. They’ve sold their comfortable Gloucestershire watermill and purchased a sheep farm in the Brecon Beacons, Wales. They’ve just moved into their new home and plan to remove the sheep and embark on a process of re-wilding and re-foresting.
