Putting our energy where it matters
We believe our responsibility to communities goes beyond delivering energy. It’s an opportunity to strengthen neighborhoods, foster stability and growth, and inspire change.
Energy is possibility
National Grid helps provide energy to underserved communities, creates opportunities for the youth and ensures safe, reliable energy amidst nature’s challenges.
We cannot achieve this without the help of our local schools, nonprofits, and leaders. Grid for Good is our responsibility in action.
Increasing access to energy
We help households to manage energy costs by providing funding for those in need. Our programs include energy efficiency education and outreach, weatherization and home energy improvements, and energy assistance.
Building resilient communities
We're working side by side with neighborhoods to meet today's challenges. Whether it’s hurricane disaster response or mentoring students to build electric cars. Building resilient communities.
Doors to skills and jobs
I graduated from the (National Grid) Energy Infrastructure Academy and after the program I was offered a job in the gas department. It is a job I really wanted and lifelong opportunities for a career.

Energy in action
With the help of partners, our own volunteers, and industry peers, community events are held year-round in both the US and the UK. From volunteer events, like assembling bikes for the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester, MA, to educational stand-ups at agriculture events across the UK, teaching kids about our field assets, these are entry points into learning about STEM applications in today's world. The youth pick up professional and social skills along the way, priming them for their future (in energy?).

Helping families when it matters most
Since 2021, we’ve partnered with more than 1,800 grassroots organizations in the UK to provide aid to those in financial hardship. For example, collaborating with Roshni Birmingham which provides a warm, safe haven for women and children escaping domestic abuse.
This past year in the US, we partnered with the National Grid Foundation to open the Care & Saving Energy Fund and the Neighborhood Heating Fund. These are part of our emergency heating and low-income programs which help customers manage increased, and necessary, energy usage.
Winters are harsh. We keep our communities safe.

When storms hit, we step in
Within hours of Hurricane Milton tearing through Florida, 43 of our Massachusetts employees joined our pre-staged crews down south, totaling around 100 of our own employees. Our line workers, fleet crews and safety experts teamed up with other utilities from multiple states to repair lines, clear roads and restore power.

Brighter futures
Upskilling underrepresented groups in both the US and the UK ensures brighter futures for the next generation of our industry.
In the US, we partnered with the Northland Workforce Training Center (Buffalo, NY) in a 6-year initiative that will educate and increase awareness of clean energy for more than 10,000 stakeholders and visitors while providing advanced manufacturing and clean energy training for more than 2500 candidates who are eager to enter the workforce.
In the UK our annual fund supports grassroot organizations in our communities. We’ve funded a range of projects, from workplace skills and employability workshops to community building retrofit and energy efficiency advice.
