The North Wessex Downs VIP project is replacing a 4.6km section of overhead electricity transmission line to the north of Devizes with an underground connection.

A total of 13 pylons will be permanently removed from the landscape.

The underground route for the new connection runs near to the current line from north of Conscience Lane in the west, along the end of the Roundway Down battlefield site and under the A361 to the south of Horton Road in the east.

Removing the pylons is going to significantly enhance views north of Devizes in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape (formerly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), including those from the Millennium White Horse.
