Essential maintenance for overhead line between Stanah and Hambleton Moss Side.
We need to carry out essential maintenance work on the existing overhead electricity line that runs between Stanah, near Thronton-Cleveleys, and Hambleton Moss Side in Lancashire.
At National Grid, we are at the heart of Britain’s energy system, connecting people to the energy they use, safely and reliably. We keep the lights on so people can go about their daily lives. We’re working to build a cleaner, fairer and more affordable energy system that serves everyone.
The existing overhead electricity line is over 60 years old, and the conductors (wires) have reached the end of their operational life.
So we can keep providing energy safely and reliably, we need to install new conductors and replace the insulators, and fixtures and fittings on the line’s 15 pylons. While we will not be installing any additional towers to the route, a gantry tower south of Cutts Lane, Hambleton Moss Side, will be repositioned within the same field.
Morgan Sindall has been appointed as the principal contractor to coordinate and deliver all works for the project. The work will have no impact on local electricity supplies.
Our refurbishment works will begin in January 2025 and last until the summer.
We may need to temporarily close some public rights of way and local roads, so we can keep our teams and the public safe as we work overhead. A summary of the roads and footpaths likely to be affected can be found here.
Normal working hours will be from 7am to 7pm Monday to Sunday and 7:30m to 5pm on public holidays. Sometimes we may need to work outside of these hours to ensure we complete our programme of works on schedule.
When the project finishes, 15 pylons will be refurbished without additional installations to provide reliable energy.
We’ll share regular updates while we’re carrying out these works, to let you know where you might see us working.
We’ve written to households, businesses and landowners to inform them about our work and any impacts it may have on nearby roads, footpaths and other community amenities. We’ll also put posters up at key locations along the route with project information and contact details for our Community Relations team for any enquiries. If you have any questions, you can contact the team by calling 0800 073 1047 or by emailing [email protected].
Our Community Grant Programme is aimed at organisations and charities in areas where National Grid’s work impacts local people through our operations and site activities.
We fund projects run by charities and community groups that meet local community needs, by providing a range of social, economic and environmental benefits.
