Conscience Lane traffic update – week commencing 10 June 2024

Short-term enabling works are now underway on National Grid’s Visual Impact Provision project in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape.

Between Monday 10 June and Friday 14 June local residents and other users of Conscience Lane can expect to see up to 40 vehicles movements per day, as our teams move into and out of our site and essential materials are delivered. This means for all vehicles, a total of up to 20 vehicles in and 20 out each day.

Our vehicles will only use the lane between 9.00am and 3.00pm.

On the occasion that very large vehicles (44+ tonnes) use the lane to make deliveries, they will be escorted to make sure that they progress safely and disruption is minimised as much as possible. Members of our team will temporarily halt the traffic coming from the opposite direction until the vehicle has entered our construction site. This should cause no more than a couple of minutes’ delay.

Access will be from the A342 only – no traffic will come through Roundway – and vehicles will enter our site via a new temporary access just to the east of Rowdefield Farm.  Please note that the closure at the eastern end of Conscience Lane is not related to National Grid's activity.

Safety is our top priority and we are making sure that information about safe driving on Conscience Lane is shared through driver briefings and daily tool box talks.
