National Grid Smart

On this page, you can find out more about National Grid Smart. If you’re looking to have a smart meter fitted in your home, please contact your energy supplier.

National Grid Smart

National Grid Smart owns a portfolio of Smart Metering Assets, working with other industry partners to ensure the technology stays up to date.

When these meters are removed from a property, we refurbish them or recycle them to minimise any waste going to landfill.

What is a smart meter?

Smart meters are the new generation of gas and electricity meters, which are replacing the traditional meters in our homes.

They measure the gas and electricity you are using and display this in near real time on a user-friendly portable screen. The meter readings are automatically sent to your energy supplier through a secure wireless network.

Smart meters are playing a vital role in giving consumers greater control over the energy we use in our homes and supporting the journey to a net zero energy network.
