BELIEVE:ACHIEVE

A major power business, we believe in giving talented graduates the development and opportunities they need to drive their careers, and achieve their full potential.

One of the world’s largest investor-owned energy companies, we’re the largest utility business in the UK, and the second largest in the United States. We own and maintain the ‘grid’ of towers (pylons) and gas pipelines which carries power across Britain, and we’re responsible for all electricity transmission in England and Wales as well as for Great Britain’s gas transmission in its entirety. We also own and manage four of the country’s eight regional gas distribution networks. What we do helps drive Britain’s economic and social well-being – and our range of placements and programmes can help drive your career.

Around 30 graduates join this 18 month programme every year, and we expect all of them to evolve into leaders and professional experts of the future. You can specialise in engineering, or in commercial operations – but all enjoy carefully chosen placements, a well-established support network and professional development which includes formal study towards professional qualifications (where applicable).

The Engineering Programme
Based in one of our engineering teams, you’ll undertake three placements, each designed to develop your skills and give you a broad insight into our work. We’ll also support you to achieving chartered status in your chosen discipline. You’ll need a 2:1 or above in one of the following engineering degrees:  Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical. We will also consider graduates with a 2:1 or above in Physics.

The Commercial Programme
As well as ‘trading’ energy and providing our services to industry partners, we also manage huge 3rd party contracts and a large portfolio of property and business acquisitions. All of which means there are plenty of careers open to you. Where applicable, we’ll support study towards professional qualifications. We look for a 2:1 degree, ideally in a Business or Management related discipline. However, we will consider other subjects, depending on the exact areas we’re recruiting into.

We’re a large business, operating in a dynamic industry, with a huge range of activities and a burning ambition to become a true global leader. As well as constant opportunity, this mix generates significant professional challenges. We look to our people to help us solve them – and we support them all the way.
