Electricity, transmission and the future

The question of energy creation and transmission is on everyone's lips. But there are only a few people who can really make a difference to this debate where it really matters. People like us. People like you.

Our Power Systems Engineers are experts working on the frontline. They're the ones who are responsible for:

  • Deciding what we buy
  • How we organise our assets
  • How those assets are maintained
  • When they'll be replaced

They're also the people who'll decide how we obtain and transmit our energy in the future.

By considering issues such as these, they're the ones who can really make a difference where it counts.

Joining them, you will be part of huge changes both within National Grid and in the way we all, as a nation, use and consume power. It will require:

  • Getting involved in all the latest technologies such as wind power and nuclear
  • Contributing to the research and development of said technologies
  • Forecasting how new assets and energy sources will be used in the coming decades

It's the kind of challenge that calls for engineers from all sorts of backgrounds and with a wide variety of skill sets. We're not just interested in engineers from a utilities background. The future we're facing requires a rounded portfolio of skills and competencies. You might come from an automotive engineering background, aerospace industry or a purely research-led environment.

Provided you've got the skills to get things done we'll be glad to hear from you.

Whatever you do, millions of people across the country will depend on your expertise. You will, quite simply, make sure the lights stay on.
