People

We are faced with some big challenges and new opportunities in a rapidly changing operating environment – and we’re working hard to be one step ahead of all the changes.

To be successful, we need to have the right people in the right places and we need to create the right conditions for our 23,000 employees in the UK and US to progress in their careers with National Grid.

Our aim is to encourage more young people, particularly women, to take STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) and become engineers. However, our passion for employability doesn’t stop there. We want to see everyone reach their full potential and gain employment, regardless of their background.

A diverse workforce and an inclusive culture can bring significant value to our business, so we want to attract applicants from under-represented groups, such as: people with disabilities; women; black, asian and minority ethnic (BAME); and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.
