Fabrication and Welding

Our team of highly skilled coded welders operates to standards including BS 4515-1:2009, API 1104 and ASME 9. Our standards apply equally to varying steel pipeline diameters, wall thicknesses and pressure ranges. We can advise on design detail and support any installation work. 

We regularly weld on live mains (hot tapping). Prior to hot tapping, we identify wall thickness and grade to ensure suitability by sampling the pipe material. The photo below shows a typical example of the type of work we can do on site: a double stopple operation carried out with Group 1 P9 Hot Tap Tees, fully welded under line pressure, with a pipe wall thickness below 4.9mm.

We are able to construct intricate steel pipework fabrications off-site at our depots in Ambergate, Hitchin and Knowsley. Our welders and welding inspectors also carry out on-site repairs and planned works to existing pipelines and plant. While our in-house radiography and phased array inspection services support our off-site fabrication works.

Where required, we issue quality-assurance packages, including: welding inspection report, weld acceptance sheet, coating inspections daily form, a non-destructive examination service with full quality assurance, and any manufacturer's certification. Our in-house QA/QC team provides this service, ensuring the final documentation includes the relevant information and is correct. Our entire team is regularly monitored to ensure quality and competence.

Our welders undertake work to P1, P2, P8 and P9 standards across the complete pipeline diameter and pressure range. We can also construct complex steel fabrications and carry out repairs to existing pipelines and plant. In addition, we offer surface preparation and application of paint or multi component liquid coating systems. 

 

 

Services

Bolting and flanging

With our highly qualified and experienced field technicians, we can offer a broad range of-end to-end mechanical services including bolting and flanging for various pressure ratings and diameters.  Our technicians are equipped with the latest torque tightening and flange spreading equipment to suit your needs.  

Where applicable, certification is issued.

End Prepping

For any joint to be welded every weld set up has to have a design, a bevel angle and a route gap and a route face/landing edge.

Prior to the end prepping process we check the pipe for laminations, discontinuities and we conduct a magnetic particle inspection (MPI) to ensure that the material is of good quality.

We follow welding procedures which gives us the bevel angle, root gap and root face (landing edge). The end prepping process can now begin.

Hot cutting

Hot cutting is a method we use for cutting pipe by flame or by grinder. We have mobile units equipped with oxypropane. We also utilise mechanically assisted techniques.

Pipeline Welding

Our team of fully certified welders and inspectors have over 100 years’ experience within the gas industry. 

Working to P9, P1, P2, P8 and all British Gas standards, certifications are updated regularly to ensure up to date competence and adherence to new industry standards. 

Welding inspections

Our team of inspectors will ensure that welding procedures have been followed and check that the amps and volts are compliant.

This is checked throughout the whole welding process and then a visual check on the finished capping pass.

Reinforcement is checked and followed by X-ray or phased array.
