EC&I

Electrical, control and instrumentation (EC&I)

Working across National Grid Gas Transmission, our EC&I team gets involved in a range of projects to ensure the continued health of the network. These include replacing or decommissioning obsolete and ageing assets, enhancing existing installations, establishing new installations, and carrying out asset inspections, surveys and overhauls.

For each project, our technical and commercial experts develop high-level scopes, followed by detailed design, delivery and closure. In many cases, we also provide ongoing maintenance support to PMC’s operational teams. Our activities cover telemetry, metering, gas quality, HV/LV power (including standby power generation and UPS), fire and gas detection, and DSEAR/ATEX compliance. Recently, we’ve developed in-house capabilities to enhance National Grid’s cyber-security resilience.

With the support of contractors from specialist frameworks using NEC4 contracts, we safely and efficiently complete projects worth up to £20 million each year. Since our formation in 2016, we’ve worked more than 500,000 man hours without a lost-time injury.

Offering broader support

Using our experience in contract management, we support other National Grid business areas beyond PMC. In particular, we’ve worked alongside large multinational corporations to complete original equipment manufacturer (OEM) overhauls and maintenance on National Grid Gas Transmission’s compressor fleet.
