Julie Cox

Julie Cox is the Head of Gas Trading at Energy UK

Julie has over 30 years’ experience in the energy industry, starting with the CEGB pre-privatisation, before moving to a gas role with National Power in 1995, just prior to the start of the Network Code. Since 2000 she has worked for The Association of Electricity Producers (AEP) with a focus on gas for generation. The AEP merged with two other trade associations to become Energy UK which has a greater breadth of membership.

Within Energy UK, Julie is the lead for the Gas Markets subcommittee that has a broad remit engaging in all wholesale and transmission issues, including: interaction with the electricity market, network charging, network access, security of supply, gas quality, RIIO2, future of gas, and European issues. The future of gas is a key topic for Energy UK as part of the decarbonisation agenda, given the role gas has in providing back up for intermittent renewable generation and as the key source of heat in around 85% of homes. Julie has been actively involved in projects in all these areas and is well placed to understand the interactions and complexity of issues being considered by the future of gas steering group.

Julie is currently a member of the IGEM gas quality working group and the Eurogas Strategy Committee, in addition to participating in UNC and RIIO workgroups.
