[15 Oct] National Grid publishes Gas Winter Outlook Report 2020-21
National Grid has published its yearly Gas Winter Outlook Report for 2020-21 today (October 15) which finds there is not expected to be any risk to gas market supplies for the coming winter.
The report examines a range of potential scenarios based on analysis and feedback from stakeholders across the energy industry, and sets out the supply and demand margins and their implications.
A range of scenarios have been considered to estimate the impact that COVID-19 might have on gas demand this winter. We do not expect COVID-19, including any changing restrictions, to increase demand beyond the winter peak we have planned for.
We do not anticipate any disruption to gas supplies in the event of a ‘no-deal’ arrangement for the UK’s exit from the EU.
We have diverse supply sources and we expect the commercial arrangements across gas interconnectors to be maintained, or alternative supply sources to respond .
For 2020-21 the gas supply margin is expected to be sufficient in all supply and demand scenarios and we have the right tools to manage any operational challenges throughout the winter.

In 2019, the Electricity System Operator (National Grid ESO) became legally separate from the National Grid Electricity Transmission and National Grid Gas businesses. As a result, this year individual Winter Outlooks have been produced by both the Gas and Electricity System Operators, view the National Grid ESO Winter Outlook report here.
The Gas Summer and Winter Outlooks, and Winter Review will now be produced by National Grid Gas Transmission.
