Robert Hewitt

Robert Hewitt is Deputy Director of Energy Security at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)

Robert joined the Civil Service in 2014 working in the Cabinet Office as part of the Government Innovation Group - looking at new models of investment that target social impact alongside financial return. He moved to Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in 2016 working on policy and then wider departmental strategy and delivery.

He previously spent 13 years working for investment banks in areas relating to equity markets trading and risk management - initially in London but then in Tokyo and Hong Kong.

Robert recently joined BEIS as Deputy Director - Energy Security, covering both gas and electricity. His team is responsible for the electricity capacity market, gas security, networks and markets as well as electricity and gas trading following the UK’s exit from the EU.
