Ray Arrell

Ray Arrel is Head of Technical Development at Regen.

Ray’s work at Regen sees him leading areas of work and technical understanding around energy storage, flexibility markets and the evolution of the UK’s electricity and gas networks. Ray also has an additional role as Senior Technical Officer for the Electricity Storage Network.

Ray’s background is in energy management in the water sector, working in the Energy Team at South West Water for 13 years, managing the company’s renewable energy activities. During this time Ray also sat on the steering group for the south west region of the Institute of Water.

Ray has overseen and delivered a number of technical advisory projects for a range of clients. He is currently leading a Gas Network Innovation Allowance funded project with Wales & West Utilities. The scope of the project is to develop and trial a new methodology to create regional and sub-regional future energy scenarios for gas and heat from a 2018 baseline out to 2035.

Ray holds a first-class honours degree in electrical engineering, has previously been a registered Incorporated Engineer with the UK Engineering Council and is an accredited BS ISO50001 Energy Management Systems Internal Auditor. Ray also represents Regen at a number of industry meetings, stakeholder workshops and roundtables with BEIS, Ofgem, National Grid, distribution network operators and other parties.
