GB EU Charging Project - Go Live Successful

10th September 2019

Further to our recent updates about the GB EU Charging Project (GBEUC) Go Live on Sunday 8th September we are pleased to confirm that the implementation was successful and all impacted systems are live.

Please find below a reminder of the changes:

Modifications/Change Variations driving the 8th September 2019 Go Live

The external impacts resulting from the systems change are low.  The following mods and/or Change Variations are driving the changes:

611 – Amendments to the firm capacity payable price at Interconnector Points

Due to the EU Network Code CAM Incremental requirements Gemini will be able to accommodate the Reserve and Premium Prices for IP PARCA.

597 - Rules for the Release of Incremental Capacity at Interconnector Points

Due to the EU Network Code CAM Incremental requirements Gemini and related downstream systems have to be compliant with the Interconnector Point (IP) Planning and Advanced Reservation of Capacity Agreement (PARCA) process.  In the event that a customer raises an IP PARCA they may wish to book IP Capacity.  Gemini will be able to accommodate bookings for IP PARCA Capacity at Moffat and Bacton.  This means that there are a couple of additional fields in Gemini and also a slight modification to a report in MIPI titled ‘Entry Long Term Capacity Sold At Auctions Report’.

Gemini Live Capacity versus Nominations Report

Provision of a new Live Capacity versus Nominations Report for a shipper and location combination on a gas day or day ahead basis.

Gemini Day Ahead and Within Day Auctions automated for GNCC

This is an internal process but requires National Grid to reconfigure the date parameters for the Entry Day Ahead (DADSEC) and Within Day (WDDSEC) Methods of Sales to make use of new Gemini system code. This is a one off activity that may impact your API configuration.

A communication was sent to the shipper community on the 23rd July with the information below but is included here as a reminder:

The current date parameters for these two auctions are;
Start date 01/04/2019
End date 31/03/2020

We are proposing a one off change;
Start date 01/04/2019
End date 30/09/2019
Start date 01/10/2019
End date 31/03/2020

We will make the change on Monday 9th September, any API automation you have may need to be revised with these amended dates and references to avoid file transfers failing from this date.

With effect from 01/10/2019 the new WDDSEC method of sale reference will be;
WDDSEC01OCT201931MAR20200688

With effect from 01/10/2019 the new DADSEC method of sale reference will be;
DADSEC01OCT201931MAR20200689

This change does not impact any other daily auctions only the DADSEC and WDDSEC.

If you have any queries please email [email protected].

GB EU Charging Project - GO Live this Sunday 8th September

4th September

The GB EU Charging Project (GBEUC) has a Go Live this Sunday 8th September which impacts Gemini and some downstream systems including MIPI.  The Gemini code update will be delivered during the Gemini Maintenance Window between 03:00  05:00, and MIPI will be updated between 07:00 and 08:30.  There will not be a MIPI outage but users may experience some intermittent disruption to the service for a short time.

Further reminder communications will be issued via ANS in the run up to go live and during Sunday 8th September.

Gemini Extended Outage

Sunday 11 February 2018 05:00am–07:00am UK GMT

Owing to remediation of an operational incident on the 29 January 2018, there will be an extended outage to Gemini of an additional 2 hours following the Sunday Gemini housekeeping window to failback the Gemini database to our primary site. No shipper, TSO activity or API access will be possible during the outage. Any files received during this period will be processed once the system becomes available.

Please be aware in accordance with UNC Section V a revision has been made to the Non Storage Supply (NSS) forecast number to take into account the status change of Rough Storage to Rough Production. It has also been evident that over the winter period flows have been consistently higher than the forecast numbers published in Winter Outlook 17/18 for categories including UKCS, Norway, and IUK. As a consequence of this the NSS forecast has been revised from 354mcm to 382mcm. This change will be effective from Gas Day 8 February 2018.

In addition, the Safety Monitor numbers in accordance with UNC Section Q have been changed to reflect the above. The requirements are published on our website and on the Joint Office website.

The Safety Monitor is there to ensure there is enough gas available for customers – that cannot be safely isolated (mostly domestic customers) – to remain supplied across the whole of the most severe winter. It also includes an amount required to isolate those customers that can be safely isolated (such as power stations and large industrial customers). It is there to ensure the safety and integrity of the system and customers – it is not to ensure security of supply. Further information can be found by accessing Transmission Operational Data, under the Pre-emergency notifications heading.

If you have any further questions or comments please contact the Operational Performance Manager Harjinder Kandola: 07896175660/ [email protected]

Calculated Linepack Utilisation

29 September 2017

You may be aware that there has been discussion with the Gas Operational Forum with regards to pressure fluctuations experienced by our customers on the NTS. We have articulated to customers why these pressure fluctuations occur and why National Grid needs to utilise the full range of allowed pressure tolerances to meet both the supply and demand profile of all of our customers on the NTS.

One area of discussion has been around what further information/indication National Grid can provide to assist customers in managing operational requirements. As part of this, we are trialing a publication of a daily linepack (difference between NTS supply and demand) notification. This report is intended to help give an indication of what the linepack may be at the lowest point in the day, and this will be available from 2 October 2017 (Transmission Operational Data). Where there is a large reduction in linepack, customers may experience reduced pressures around that point in time.

This report is based on hourly physical supply and demand flow notifications received from NTS connected sites and latest linepack of the Gas Day. The following points of caution should be noted.

- It is important to note that the physical notifications which will indicate a change to linepack are changed continually throughout the day by connected parties, and therefore linepack anticipated at the start of the day may be very different to the linepack seen later in the day. The report will be published at three key points within the gas day (06:00am, 12:30pm and 6:30pm) based on the latest information.

- It should also be noted that a large reduction in national NTS  linepack does not mean all customers will experience reduced pressures. Locally, pressure can be significantly affected by the action of large locally connected sites and this can distort the effect of the national level linepack changes.

- Potential actions taken by customers in response to this report may in itself change the linepack experienced. This report is not able to inform customers what the linepack will be at a particular point in time; it indicates what the linepack would be based on the information we’ve received at that point in time.

- We will be seeking feedback from customers on how useful this report is, and we are continuing to work with customers to explore information that may help meet customer’s needs.

Consultation on potential operating margins incentive

17 August 2017

We are consulting on the potential re-introduction of a financial incentive for Operating Margin’s costs. These proposals are designed to help ensure that the costs customers pay for Operating Margins are kept to a minimum.

In May 2017 we sought views on whether our customers support the general principle that, as with other pass-through costs, Operating Margins costs should be subject to a financial incentive. We would now very much welcome your view on whether you feel the scheme parameters that we have proposed to Ofgem represent fair balance of risk and reward sharing between customers and National Grid.

Your views will be passed to Ofgem who will consider these when developing their thinking on this matter.

Please use this link to view the document. It sets out our rationale for incentivising Operating Margins, our proposed scheme, and it contains general background information. We would be very happy to discuss this further with anyone who may be interested to do so.

We would appreciate responses by 8 September 2017. However, if you would like to respond but are unable to do so by then for any reason please let us know. We would be happy to discuss these proposals further if you would like further information.

Storage stock level information

12 May 2017

Please be aware that we have been experiencing an issue with the provision of the Storage stock information and NTS Shrinkage Data to MIPI.

We have been working hard to understand the root cause of this issue and have a temporary solution in place from today and as such we expect this information will be available from Gas Day 12 May 2017. A solution to fully address the root cause will be implemented as soon as possible.

If you have any queries on this please contact [email protected].

MIPI data inconsistencies update

12 May 2017

On 30 July 2016 National Grid Transmission successfully implemented the Gas Control Suite (GCS) which replaced an aging control system with a more flexible solution to meet the new challenges of managing the network. This also provided the following capabilities:

  • Physical control of the UK bulk gas transmission network
  • Higher reliability, more secure system with next generation operator user interfaces (first total makeover since 1990s)
  • Commercial UK gas market facilitation and operation
  • Flexible solution that can rapidly be adapted to regulatory or market change with state of the art easy access data visualisation

Following GCS there were some inconsistencies in the data that was reflected in MIPI/GMRS.

The project team have been working hard to resolve the outstanding issues and as such we sent a communication on 31 March 2017 to highlight that these should be resolved by the end of May 2017.  A progress update can be summarised as follows:

Demand actual data D+1 (SISR04 and Data Item Explorer)

This data has been consistently available since 3 November 2016.

Since GCS implementation however,  there have been some inconsistencies with this data and therefore all existing D+1 data was deleted between 29 July 2016 until 2 November 2016. This data will not be retrospectively added back into MIPI as the more accurate D+6 data is available.

Demand actual data D+6 (SISR04 and Data Item Explorer)

All data for the missing period between 23 July 2016 and 11 February 2017 has now been retrospectively added back into MIPI ahead of the forecasted completion date.

Weather Data (Operational Summary Report)

The weather data item within this daily report has not been available since GCS implementation. From 26 May 2017 this specific data item will be published within the daily reports. The aim was to have the retrospective patching of missing data completed by the end of May 2017, however priority was given to ensure the D+6 data was available sooner. The retrospective weather data will now be available by 23 June 2017.

Demand data update

11 May 2017

As you will be aware on 30 July 2016 National Grid Transmission successfully implemented the Gas Control Suite (GCS) which replaced an aging control system with a much more flexible control system to meet the new challenges of managing the network.

Following GCS there were some data inconsistencies in the data that was reflected in MIPI/GMRS, most of which have been resolved.

A few remaining issues exist which the project team have been working hard to resolve. These will be resolved by the end of May 2017. The outstanding issues can be summarised as follows:

Demand actual data D+1 (SISR04 and Data Item Explorer)

This data has been consistently available since 3 November 2016.

Since GCS implementation there have been some data inconsistencies with this data and therefore all existing D+1 data has been deleted since 29 July 2016 until 2 November 2016. This data will not be retrospectively added back into MIPI as the more accurate D+6 data is available.

Demand actual data D+6 (SISR04 and Data Item Explorer)

All data is correct since 12 February 2017.

The historic data has not been available in MIPI from 23 July 2016 until 22 February 2017. All data for this period will be retrospectively added back into MIPI by mid-May 2017. News items will be posted onto MIPI as this progresses.

Weather Data (Operational Summary Report)

The weather data item within this daily report has not been available since GCS implementation. From mid-May 2017 this data item will be published and hence the report will be complete from that point onwards. The retrospective patching of missing data will commence as soon as possible and we aim to have this completed by the end of May 2017.

Capacity Availability (NORD07)

An issue has been identified with this report and we are working to understand the root cause of this issue.

Procurement guidelines 2016-2017

28 April 2017

Please be aware that the Procurement Guidelines Report covering the period 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017 is now available on the Procurement and System Management Documents page.

Prevailing View - GDW/MN values

6 April 2017

As you may be aware, as a result of March 2017 Clock Change activities there is slight delay in the GDW and MN Trigger values displaying on time. For each Gas Day the value for ‘Tomorrow’ should move over to the value for ‘Today’ as of 05:00am. However, there is a delay with this information moving across where the values are moving over at 06:15am in the first instance. Going forward there is a fix for the system currently planned for 14 April 2017.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience in resolving this issue.
