National Grid has a dedicated Sales and Letting Team that works closely with the Land Regeneration and Property Management teams to dispose of surplus sites from the portfolio and generate income from rentals.

The fundamental strategy behind the team is to generate cash for National Grid plc from the sale and letting of surplus properties, whilst minimising environmental liabilities.

The team continually appraise the portfolio to prioritise sites for sale, taking into consideration the market conditions, environmental status of the site and planning potential.  The aim is to add value to the site by securing planning permission prior to disposal or maximise receipts through negotiating overage deals and profit sharing arrangements.

Typically much of the portfolio has been sold to residential developers, retailers and commercial developers, however on more than one occasion sites have been sold to Premiership Football Clubs.

In addition to single site sales, the team has successfully put together several multi-million pound package sales including the disposal of the former residential portfolio and much of the retail investment portfolio.
