Benefits of Smart Metering

Remember when you thought you wouldn’t need a mobile phone and the idea that one day you would carry your computer around in your briefcase seemed a bit far fetched?  These innovations have now become an essential part of business life.  The world of metering is evolving too and could bring real benefits to your business.  Smart Metering is the future of meter reading.  There are many advantages to Smart Metering, listed below are just a few of them:

Better budget management – because you have more information about the energy you use, you can see easily when and where your energy is used the most.  This will allow you to focus your efforts on the areas that need it most and potentially save £££s by enabling you to better manage your budget.

If you are a large energy user and have multiple meters or multiple sites, the AMR devices can be synchronised to read at the same time giving you a snapshot of your entire portfolio.  This allows you to make accurate comparisons between sites.

National Grid Metering’s Automatic Meter Reading device can also be set to alert you via text message or email if consumption is abnormally high or low allowing you even more control in your business.

Accurate billing – Smart Metering is a giant leap towards eliminating estimated bills. Because the system is fully automated the risk of not obtaining a read is dramatically reduced along with the risk of providing an incorrect read.  Coupled with our system capacity and our experience, the days of estimated billing are numbered!

Safety Check - Please be aware that by law, a routine safety check of your meter installation will still be required every two years.

Environmental Benefits - Smart Metering will help your business to take more control of gas consumption which not only saves you money, but also goes a long way to helping your business satisfy the increasing demands of environmental legislation such as the Government's Energy White Paper; the Kyoto protocol; and the EC Energy Efficiency Green Paper.  National Grid Metering’s Smart Metering device is also approved by the Carbon Trust as being able to help your business reduce its CO2 emissions which contribute to climate change.  Not only that but because there is no longer a need for your meter to be read manually, you are helping to reduce traffic on the road which further cuts down CO2 emissions and reduces traffic congestion.

No meter reading visits – With Smart Metering, visits to your premises to read your meter are a thing of the past.  The AMR device will do the work without interference leaving you free to get on with running your business.

Please be aware a two yearly safety check of your meter installation will still be required.
