National Grid is delivering a vital gas mains replacement project to help ensure the people of Watford continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies.
Work recently began on the scheme which involves replacing 24km of ageing metallic gas mains with tough new plastic pipes.
The work is currently taking place in Woodland Drive, Orchard Drive, Orchard Close, The Gardens, Garden Close and Temple Close.
Subsequent work will take place in the following roads in and around the Watford area:

Service pipes to properties are also being replaced and engineers will need access to properties to carry out this work and advance notice will be given to those affected.
People should ask to see official identification before letting people into their property. For more advice and to verify the identity of one of our employees call 0845 605 6677.
Work has been carefully planned to ensure it is delivered with minimal inconvenience. The new mains will be inserted into the old mains wherever possible which will reduce the need for digging. Work on key, busy roads will also be carried out during the school holidays when the roads are generally quieter to reduce traffic disruption.
National Grid Construction Operations Engineer Kevin Blundell said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this vital work causes. Our work will help ensure people continue to enjoy gas supplies for heating and cooking.”
The project is being delivered by the North London Gas Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Skanska.
Work is due to be completed in late June 2013. For more information on the scheme call 0800 096 5678.
The project forms part of National Grid’s nationwide programme of gas mains replacement
