Essential gas mains renewal in Belton, Doncaster

20/12/2011

National Grid, the company at the heart of Britain’s energy system, is due to begin the second phase of its £119,000 investment to replace the gas mains in Belton to ensure that residents and businesses in the area continue to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply.

On Tuesday 3 January 2012, engineers will begin work to replace approximately 500 metres of old metal gas mains with new hard-wearing plastic pipe in the High Street. The new pipe will last for around 80 years if left undisturbed.

It is anticipated to be completed by the beginning of March 2012, by AMEC working on behalf of National Grid.

For the safety of the travelling public and our workforce it will be necessary to install two-way traffic lights along the High Street between King Edward Street and Jeffrey Lane. Part of our work will be outside Belton All Saints Primary Church of England School and this will be done during the February half term week when there is less traffic along the route.

Construction engineer, Danny Jackson, said: “We wish to assure everyone that we will do our upmost to minimise any disruption associated with this work. which has been agreed in conjunction with the local authority.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused but these are essential works which are required to ensure the people in the area continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for cooking and heating.”

Gas supplies will only be affected when the gas supply is being transferred from the old gas pipe to the new one.  Supplies will only be disrupted during that day, and residents and businesses who are affected will be contacted by our customer services team before work starts in their area.

Our engineers may need access to properties but you should always ask to see official identification before allowing anyone into your home or business.  If in doubt about the identity of an engineer, please call 0845 6000320

The project is part of an investment of over £2 billion a year in National Grid’s gas and electricity networks in the UK.
